The Zentrum Digitaleisierung.Bayern (ZD.B) is a unique research, cooperation and foundation platform in Germany, which acts as a stimulant in cooperation with business, science, associations and public measures. The aim is to further strengthen the research competence of Bavaria in the area of digitization and to increase the pace of digital developments.
Applications are invited for Zentrum Digitaleisierung.Bayern (ZD.B) Fellowships to pursue Ph.D. programme. In 2017, up to ten ZD.B Fellowships will be awarded. One fundamental ZD.B initiative to reach these goals in the field of digitization is the support of doctoral candidates.

The funding program is also an opportunity to enable more qualified women to get into leading management positions within science, business, and society.

Course Level: Fellowships are available to pursue Ph.D. program.

Study Subject: Fellowships are awarded to pursue a research project in a field of interest relevant to digitization receive the opportunity to be financially and ideally supported. ZD.B Fellows participate in application-oriented courses and events within the framework of the ZD.B Graduate Program on highly relevant topics of digitization. As part of the ZD.B network, the Fellows also have access to all ZD.B events and can benefit from an interdisciplinary exchange with other doctoral students at Bavarian universities, as well as experts from science and business.

Scholarship Award: ZD.B Fellows receive funding for a period of generally three years to carry out their doctoral thesis. A full-time job is financed according to TV-L E13 (100%) at the Bavarian State University (University or Applied Science College) where the doctoral thesis is being conducted.

Number of Scholarships: In 2017, up to ten ZD.B Fellowships will be announced for the first time.

Scholarship can be taken in Germany

Eligibility Criteria:

The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:

  • Excellent university degree or comparable state-recognized study qualification, which qualifies for a doctorate at a state Bavarian university
  • Which has a technically, economically or socially relevant focus which is important for digitization and which is designed for a period of three years
  • Support by the supervising university lecturer or the supervising university lecturer at a state Bavarian University – in the case of doctorate courses in cooperation or in conjunction with the University and the University of Applied Sciences, e.g. within the framework of a BayWISS Colloquium. A joint declaration of support from both universities.

Nationality: International students are eligible to apply for this fellowship.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have an excellent Master degree or comparable, state-approved final degree which qualifies for a doctorate at a Bavarian state University.

English Language Requirements: The courses of the ZD.B Graduate Program are mostly offered in German. However, some courses are held in English.

Method of Application:

The application documents must be submitted in electronic form (1 PDF document, max. 7 MB) by 31.08.2017 in German or English under fellowships-at-zd-b.de. Only full applications corresponding to the conditions of the tender will be considered.
